Tapas bars in Poble-Sec
Poble-Sec is one of the most authentic and best preserved neighbourhoods in Barcelona. Located at the foot of Montjuïc, still far from mass tourism, it retains a real neighbourhood life that shows in every bar and every square. Its residents have been eating in the same places for generations, and that translates into a quality and authenticity that is increasingly hard to find in the city centre.
The tapas bars of Poble-Sec are mostly century old establishments with a history as long as the neighbourhood’s avenues. Here you eat tapas as they have always been eaten: standing up,
confidently and without watching the clock.
The 4 tapas bars of Poble-Sec
Quimet i Quimet
This tiny bar of barely 25 square metres opened its doors in 1914 and has since become one of the most famous tapas bars not just in Poble-Sec but in all of Barcelona. The tapas are delicious — creative montaditos with the highest quality conserves — but you’ll eat them standing: no room for stools or chairs. A unique experience you won’t find anywhere else.
Our tip: Only open at lunchtime and weekends. Get there early or there won't even be standing room. Worth every second of the wait.
Celler Cal Marino
A perfect place to have a good wine or vermouth with some delicious tapas. The atmosphere is that of a traditional neighbourhood wine cellar, calm and unhurried, where the locals come to disconnect from the city noise.
Our tip: The wine selection is excellent. Ask the waiter for a recommendation — they know the menu well and the suggestions are always spot on.
Borrell
Almost unchanged since 1909, this bar is literally a time capsule of Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century. The décor, the counter, the lighting — everything seems frozen in time. A place for those who value authenticity above all else.
Our tip: One of the most authentic bars in Barcelona. Go in with your eyes wide open and take it all in.
El Sortidor
An emblematic Poble-Sec spot that since 1908 has delighted its residents with a cuisine that blends tradition and modernity without losing the soul of the neighbourhood. The Sortidor square where it’s located is one of the most peaceful and charming in Barcelona.
Our tip: Plaça del Sortidor is perfect for sitting on the terrace before or after eating tapas. It's the most peaceful and authentic side of Poble-Sec.

Poble-Sec: the most authentic neighbourhood at the foot of Montjuïc
Poble-Sec — whose name means ‘dry village’ in Catalan — is a neighbourhood that still belongs to its residents more than to tourists. Located between Avinguda del Paral·lel and Montjuïc, it has a distinct identity forged over decades of genuine neighbourhood life. Its squares, markets and bars reflect a Barcelona that is increasingly hard to find in the city centre.
